About the role
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced full-time Mechanical Fitter to join their team in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
This is a hands on role focused on the diagnosis, overhaul, rebuild and servicing of pumps and rotating equipment, both in the workshop and on customer sites.
The work requires precision mechanical fitting and a solid understanding of rotating equipment and engineering practices where critical clearances, tolerances and alignment directly impact equipment performance and reliability.
You will use your hands on experience to dismantle, inspect and rebuild pumps and rotating assemblies while ensuring all work meets OEM specifications, engineering and quality standards.

key responsibilities
This role is suited to an experienced Mechanical Fitter with strong exposure to pumps and rotating equipment rebuilds, not general plant maintenance.
Pump & Rotating Equipment Overhauls
Diagnose mechanical faults and assess the condition of pumps and rotating equipment
Dismantle, inspect and rebuild pumps and rotating assemblies in accordance with OEM specifications and engineering standards
Measure and set critical internal clearances and tolerances including bearings, shafts, seals and impellers
Install bearings, mechanical seals, gaskets and associated components using correct fitting techniques
Precision Assembly & Alignment
Assemble rotating equipment following controlled build processes and quality procedures
Perform laser alignment of pump and driver assemblies, including soft foot correction
Conduct static or dynamic balancing of rotating assemblies where required
Carry out hydrostatic pressure testing and functional checks to confirm equipment integrity
Workshop & Field Service
Perform pump rebuilds, mechanical assemblies and equipment testing in the workshop
Attend customer sites to diagnose faults and carry out technical repairs when required
Support commissioning, start-up and performance testing of pump packages
Technical Documentation & Quality
Record inspection findings, measurements, alignment data and rebuild details accurately
Produce service reports, repair scopes and job documentation
Ensure all work meets HSEQ requirements and quality standards
About You
You are an experienced Mechanical Fitter with strong exposure to pumps or rotating equipment, who takes pride in precision work and high standards of workmanship. You enjoy diagnosing mechanical problems and working methodically to rebuild equipment to exact specifications.
You bring:
3+ years post-trade experience as a Mechanical Fitter
Strong, demonstrated experience working on pumps or rotating equipment
Ability to work confidently to tight tolerances and critical clearances
Solid understanding of bearings, mechanical seals, shaft alignment, fits and tolerances, pump packages
Demonstrated understanding of the importance of design and engineering best practices
Advanced problem solving and fault-finding skills
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, OEM manuals and technical documentation
Methodical approach to mechanical work with strong attention to detail capability
Restricted Electrical License (disconnect/connect) highly desirable.
Experience working across different industries such as food processing, manufacturing, mining, aviation, oil and gas or heavy engineering will be highly regarded.
Additional requirements:
Current Police Check, medical test, and up-to-date Hepatitis B and Q Fever vaccinations
Some client sites may require drug and alcohol testing
